
Unit 1: Study of Voice in Poetry
1. Students will analyze their voice and voice in poetry and prose pieces.
2. Students will write a variety of poetry and prose that imitate the style of a poet or author.
3. Students will present themselves to the class.
Projects and Presentations:
1. Students will add finishing touches to poetry and prose pieces to share with the class.
2. Students will present their voice in connection to another text.
3. Students will begin a four quarter research project.
Unit 2: Stranger in the Village
1. Students will analyze the theme of “Stranger in Village” in short stories and film.
2. Students will study the impacts the theme has on literature and culture.
Projects and Presentations:
1. Students present a speech based on themes presented in Edward Scissorhands.
2. Students will write a reflective essay on their improvement within the class.
3. Poster project based on themes in Edward Scissorhands.
Unit 3: The Quest
The Adventure of Life
1. Students will read the novel Big Fish.
2. Students will analyze the theme of “the quest”
Projects and Presentations
1. Students will present the exaggerated story
2. Students will create a project based on one of the theme within the novel
Unit 4: Drama: A Study of the Effects of Obsession,
Jealousy, and Pride
1. Students will study the play Othello by William Shakespeare.
Projects and Presentations:
1. Students will present a scene from Othello which requires memorization of lines, staging of actors, and scene design based on their interpretation of the play.
Unit 5: Film Interpretation
1. Students will study film techniques and the many levels of interpretation they add to film.
Projects and Presentations:
1. Students will work with a short screen play
2. Students will create a storyboard from the screen play they wrote.
3. Students will create a film and advertisements for their film.
